A Place in the Sun . Is so wonderful to open the door in the mornings now and breathe in the heady scent of the orange blossom! There is certainly no comparison between visiting an exhibition in London’s Olympia ( A Place in the Sun ) and coming here for a viewing! You need to use all five senses to really appreciate what this area has to offer. Many visitors to the Costa Blanca were able to take advantage of last week’s Easter break to visit the nearby coastal resorts and view properties at bargain prices, whilst soaking up the sun. With the euro still weakening against the pound, boosted this week by the Shell/BG merger, this is still th best time in years to buy your dream home.
Family, who came over from England, were amazed to see how busy the beaches were during Easter week, but with temperatures in the high twenties, it was the perfect time for an early taste of all that a sunny, coastal resort can offer. The street market at Santa Pola was also very popular, brimming with locals and visitors. We sauntered around looking for tablecloths, sunhats, shirts and whatever looked inviting on the food stalls, before going for a cool beer down on the equally busy, seafront terraces. The ‘boys’ in the group (aged between 30 and 60!) also enjoyed an adrenaline-fuelled session back at Elche’s Karting Club, with my spirited, three-year old granddaughter, who has decided to add the name ‘Fernando’ to her surname of Alonso, insisting on getting her first taste of driving in a dual-steering kart, proving that it doesn’t just have to be the males who make it in Formula 1. Char-grilled burguers, tortilla and drinks made it an enoyable get-together for all the family. At only 15 euros for 6 laps of practice and qualification and 12 laps for the race itself, it certainly is worth going there for the Wednesday special. You even get a bottle of champagne-cider to waste on the podium!
