Blue Skies
Ella Fitzgerald’s singing came to mind as I took this week’s photo and gazed in wonder at one of Elche’s perfect beaches, Arenales del Sol. A weekend in London has made us even more acutely aware of the vivid colours and light intensity that makes the Costa Blanca such a very special place to live – no Seasonal Affective Disorders could be possible here! Its’s summer, with a little less heat, for the other three seasons too.
Also, after travelling over the years further north towards the Costa Brava and south to the Costa del Sol, we are convinced that this area of the Costa Blanca is unsurpassable for its clean, wide stretches of golden, sandy beaches. Temperatures are creeping into the mid-twenties now too, so, as the lyrics say, ‘nothing but blue skies from now on’. Doesn’t it make your spirits soar?
Speaking of ‘soaring’, what about the pound/euro exchange rate? Still the highest since 2007 at 1.40, making the property market even more attractive for British buyers and, with no imminent possibilty of a cure for the Greek debt problem, the euro could be this weak for the near future. As I walked through Gran Alacant shopping centre today and gave the final touches to cleaning out our swimming pool, it was apparent that the preparation for the Easter break had already begun all around the area. Everyone seemed to be busy with their spring clean routines, as businesses closed over the winter months get ready to reopen and gardeners prune and upgrade. Elche has stunning, Easter processions, beginning on Palm Sunday (29th March, this year) and ending with the ‘Alleluia’ processions on Easter Sunday (5th April, this year) – not to be missed! I will be give more details about these next week.
Until then…
